The hair thing has gotten better for me as time has gone on and short women's haircuts became more common, but god some of the comments I used to have to deal with and some of the godawful haircuts I received up to the mid 2010s*. As people said in the other thread, it's rarely an actual refusal of service, but usually just death by a thousand cuts of catty or weird comments (I've personally witnessed a particularly unpleasant string of variation of "not normally a thing guys do" and "giant hand" remarks to a trans woman with me at a nail salon), and in the worst case scenario a quality of service that seems subpar compared to other guests, or at the very worst an actual act of petty sabotage if the stylist disapproves of your gender/orientation performance on a personal level (I've had this happen to me with the haircut thing, as a queer woman).
